Gardening on the Gratton

Trustees, Benn and Richard spent Saturday morning completing the wild flower bank rack off. By removing cut foliage we prevent it from nutritioning the soil. Although this may sound counter intuitive; wild flowers actually need poor quality soil to flourish.

We were careful not to damage the bordering daffodils which should be flowering shortly.

Once that job was done, we did a little litter picking and moved on to preparing fence panels for our latest project; the boardwalk bench. These, hand made, hazel fence panels will go behind the bench forming a shield from the wild shrubbery behind. The bench itself will be located at the northern end of the board walk, just off the path, and over looking the River Dever. Even at this time of year there are snow drops to admire from this perspective.

Additional hazel fence panels have also been put behind Ken Wheeler’s Bench to keep the brambles at bay.
