Southern Water Project

Southern Water are undertaking a project to convert the wastewater treatment sites in Gratton Close and Saddlers Close into pumping stations. Wastewater from both sites will be transported via a new sewer pipe the treatment works in Harestock. This will allow the wastewater to be treated to an even higher quality before it is released back into the environment.

The project will involve laying a pipe around the north and eastern edge of the Gratton, just inside, and parallel to the existing footpath.

Work will commence on Monday 24th July 2023, and continue in and around the Gratton area for approximately 9 weeks.

As a user of the Gratton, Southern Water has addressed some of the questions you may have:

How will this affect me?

  1. Road closure/Traffic Management – there will be no road closures or traffic lights during the works.
  2. Visual/noise impact – workers will be on site from 0730 to 1700. There will be general construction noise, but nothing beyond that.
  3. Safety of park users – there will be safety barriers, signage and fencing around areas they are working on.
  4. Dogs off the lead – work will be happening around the perimeter of the park, and vehicles, once in place, will be behind safety barriers. When moving machinery, the safety of both people and animals will be the priority.
  5. Reinstatement of the park – the area will be put back to its original condition after works have been completed. The newly planted orchid will not be impacted.
  6. The NurseryLittle Oaks will not be affected by the works, and will remain open as normal. There will be no access constraints to the Nursery.
  7. Allotments – access to allotments will not be impacted by the works.
  8. The River Dever – access to the river will not be impacted by the works.
  9. Football – the works should not impede onto either of the football pitches, however, it will be alongside. For your safety, please look at notices on barriers and fencing. Please ensure children do not climb over the barriers or fencing at any time.
  10. Playground – access to the playground will not be impacted by the works and will remain open throughout.
