A New Year on the Gratton

We are less than two months into the year, but already several projects have been completed.

The first you may have noticed is the planting of three elm trees near our community orchard. These are special disease-resistant elms kindly provided the Hampshire Forest Partnership, part of a programme to reintroduce them across the county. The Gratton Trust was delighted to play its small part.

Our next project was all about improving security on the Gratton, specifically vehicle access. A new steel gate with a secure lock has been installed at the allotment end. This gate is surprisingly subtle and blends in nicely. Most importantly though, the investment should last us for many years.

The latest project to complete was the salvage and relocation of a railway buffer stop. It was found overgrown on the embankment serving no useful purpose. So the Trust relocated it to next to the Pavilion where it can be seen and enjoyed by all. As a part of the Gratton’s railway history, we have updated the ‘Our History‘ page of the website where you can learn more about it.
