There was a great turn out on Saturday from the Trust and the local community to plant the fruit trees in the Gratton’s new community orchard.
It was a cold, but sunny morning, and everyone was grateful that the holes had been dug the weekend before, when the ground wasn’t like a rock! In fact despite the freezing temperatures, with the sun, some of the volunteers were down to their shirt sleeves when breaking up the soil and filling in the holes.
Eight fruit trees have now been planted; 4 apple, 2 plumb, and 2 pear trees. It is hoped a few years time we will all be able to enjoy the fruition of this project.
Our thanks go to Sue Heath-Caldwell for the original idea, and to Tesco for the grant that made this project happen.
